Welcome to 'The Proof Of Happiness' Mk.2. I decided a couple of months a go I wanted to re-do 'The Proof Of Happiness' (a pen and ink picture I did about 2 years a go). I really liked the original concept, but the older ink version just doesn't fit in with my portfolio...que re-invention.
I was about half way through it when I heard about the Cheltenham Illustrators Award for new talent whilst at work - the theme for this year is 'Tall Tales'. Ideal for my sort of quirky work, so I decided to do something new and add in a narrative element.
Its sort of an 'orphaned page' from a picture book, in that its designed to stand alone, but looks like its part of a sequence, the idea is that the viewer fills the gaps. The theory behind it is how your surroundings and situation command your general emotions in life - in this case happiness.
Created using photoshop and various bits of scanned traditional parts.
