I realise I haven't updated my journal in a fair while so I thought it was about time I let you all know what I've been up to.
As you can see from my gallery, I have had a few recent sporadic uploads of work as I push on with putting together a legitimate illustration portfolio. I have 5 pieces in the works at the moment - I spent all day yesterday trying to paint clouds for a piece in my own stylistic, surreal/cutesy manner. The results...were rubbish and resulted in me getting uber frustrated having wasted a day painting bloody clouds! In the end, I completely rejigged the composition of my piece to include less cloud, more sky, so I guess its a blessing in disguise.
The trouble is, if I was working to a deadline for a client this project would be a disaster - I need to churn work out quicker if I'm gonna crack the industry.
Once I have 10 pieces complete, I can then set about building a website and sorting out a bit of promotional material...and hopefully (fingers crossed) start making some money.
Away from creative work I'm doing a 3 month internship with the Association of Illustrators. Its a lot of fun, and I'm learning a lot about the industry, which in turn is scaring me immensely (illustration is very poorly paid unless you are exceptionally lucky, the industry is dead competitive and is very unforgiving even for those who 'make it').
Its not really a safe option atm, so I'm considering trying to get a job in arts admin. Oh and another thing, I'm very very broke.
Enough self-indulgent waffle - keep a tab on my DA space because more is coming soon!
